Acorn Antiques began life as as a semi-regular series of TV comedy sketches within Victoria Wood's sketch show. As Seen On TV first broadcast AA to an unsuspecting public on BBC2 in January 1984 and over the years it has blossomed into a much loved piece of British culture. In 2005 Ms. Wood revived the characters in a smash-hit West End Musical.
Work on the show began back in 2002 and a preliminary two-week workshop in '04 contained several performers who went on to work on the West End run: Julie Walters, Celia Imrie, Duncan Preston and Myra Sands. Directed by Trevor Nunn, it was first performed at The Theatre Royal Haymarket in London, with previews from 31 January 2005 (opening night was 9 February) and its limited run ended on the 21st May 2005. It was such a success it holds the honour of have the highest prices tickets for a musical in the West End at the time.
